Draining and disconnecting a spa are related preparations with different boundaries. Use the model's owner instructions for permitted shutdown and draining tasks, and arrange the appropriate specialist for hardwired electrical work.
Do this before the handling appointment. A visible empty shell does not prove that wiring is safely isolated or that internal water is prepared for transport and storage.
Find the correct instructions and disposal route
Identify the brand, model and year if available and obtain the matching manual. Ask the dealer if you cannot confirm the right document.[3]
Choose where water may go before connecting a hose. Salt Lake City's stormwater guidance notes that even allowable dechlorinated pool discharges can raise water-quality concerns.[6] Ask the relevant utility about your actual property and treatment system rather than assuming a nearby drain is suitable.
Arrange safe electrical disconnection
Have a qualified electrician or appropriate spa service representative safely disconnect a hardwired supply. Hot Spring identifies specialist help for directly wired tubs.[1] Do not open electrical enclosures, undo wiring or treat switching off a breaker as proof that conductors are safe to touch.
For a factory cord-connected model, follow the actual manual. Do not cut or modify the cord or fit an improvised replacement. Confirm the new property's requirements separately.
Drain through the model's permitted method
Follow the instructions for the drain, hose or approved pump method. Do not run circulation equipment dry. Keep water away from vulnerable building areas and leave the eventual handling path clear.
The Calm manual has a specific drain sequence and warns against drainage that could enter window wells or other places where damage may occur.[12] That sequence is an example of why another model's fittings should not be operated by guesswork.
Address water left in internal components
Hot Spring notes that water can remain hidden after shell draining.[2] If the spa will face freezing conditions or storage, ask a spa technician what preparation is needed for the model and expected disconnected period.
Do not copy a generic antifreeze dose or loosen internal plumbing from an internet checklist. Use the winterization planning guide to organize the specialist conversation.
Finish ordinary cleaning and accessory preparation
Use approved surface-care products and remove only the accessories agreed with the manufacturer and handler. Label fixings and keep them protected separately. Photograph condition before packing.
Do not split the shell or frame to reduce the spa's size. The removable-parts guide distinguishes accessories from structural and equipment components.
Keep the preparation record for restart
Record who performed disconnection and any model-specific winterization. Pass that information to the person handling the destination's commissioning.
Confirm the foundation and electrical installation, then follow the model's filling and priming procedure. Bullfrog warns against energizing an empty spa.[12] Use the pickup preparation checklist and first-week operating checks for the stages on either side of transport.
